    There are two views in the literature:

    1. Language interpreting can be taught and learnt as a discipline standing in its own right.
    2. Language interpreting training can be effective only if it builds on a preceding translation training programme. This view looks at translation as a basic block in training followed by interpreting, as an advanced specialisation under translation studies.
